First it was Shatrughan Sinha, then Mumbai police chief and now BJP in Kolkatta against cheerleaders. What they call as scantily dressed dancers are, in fact, the finest of sports-women, who have gone through very tough organized routines made from elements of some tumbling, dance, jumps and stunting to direct the events spectators to cheer sports teams at games and matches. Some have even lost lives during their training. Cheerleading has now attained the status of a global sport with estimated 1.5 million participants in the United States alone and over 100,000 scattered around the rest of the world in countries including Australia, China, Japan and Europe. Cheerleading is all about having a positive and supportive attitude and enthusiasm, apart from a tremendous amount of physical aspect to it. So please, Mr. Sinha, BJP activists and the like of them, get enlightened on the subject and instead of condemning them, say Three Cheers to Cheerleaders.
